Note: The general way to avoid any of the below mentioned or any other compatibility issues is to make sure that you are running the latest version for both the Windows and Avast.

How to deal with the Cortana menu critical error?

The Cortana menu critical error is the most common error reported by the Windows user. This error blocks the start menu and Cortana completely which makes using Windows extremely painful and impractical. Although it is a popular belief that this error is caused by Avast or any other Antivirus. This in fact is not true. This error is solely caused by a bug in Windows 10. Make sure that you are updated with the Avast antivirus before attempting the solution mentioned below.

If you are in luck, you may only need to reboot windows in safe mode and then restart in regular mode.

  • Open the ‘Run’ dialog box (Windows + R)
  • Punch ‘msconfig’ into the dialog box and press enter after confirming the text.
  • A system configuration will open.
  • Go to boot menu and select the ‘Safe boot’ option.
  • Restart your computer
  • Once restarted just switch to regular mode restart the computer again.

This should disengage the error and Cortana should work smooth as ever.

If this approach does no good, then try to add another account into your windows. The easiest way to add a new account is to follow the mentioned steps:

  • Right click on the start menu and open Command Prompt (Admin).
  • Punch the following Syntax into it ‘net user [username] [password]/add’. Press enter after confirming.

In all probability this should terminate the error once and for all. And in case this doesn’t work, feel free to call our Avast Helpline Number 1-855-254-6999. We have a team of experts that specializes in Avast Support. They will help you fix your problem.
